Solar Photovoltaic Cables

Solar photovoltaic (PV) cables are specially designed electrical cables used for interconnection of solar panels, inverters, charge controllers, and battery systems in photovoltaic power installations. These cables play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and long-term transmission of DC power generated by solar modules.

Key Features:

  1. High current carrying capacity
  2. Low power loss
  3. Excellent thermal stability
  4. UV, moisture, and chemical resistant
  5. Long service life (25–30 years)
  6. Suitable for harsh outdoor environments

Applications:

Solar PV cables are used for:

  • Interconnecting solar panels (module-to-module)
  • Connecting solar strings to combiner boxes
  • Linking DC output of panels to inverters
  • Battery bank and charge controller connections
  • They are suitable for both rooftop and ground-mounted solar power systems.

Conductor:

  • The conductor is made of high-purity tinned copper, which provides:
  • Excellent electrical conductivity
Superior resistance to corrosion and oxidation
  • Long service life in outdoor and humid environments
  • Stable performance in high-temperature conditions
  • Tinning prevents copper from degrading when exposed to moisture, heat, and chemical contaminants, making it ideal for solar installations.

Insulation & Sheath:

The cables are insulated and sheathed with special cross-linked halogen-free polymers (XLPO) that provide:

  • UV resistance
  • Weather and ozone resistance
  • High temperature tolerance (typically up to 120°C or more)
  • Flame retardant properties
  • Excellent flexibility for easy installation
  • These properties allow the cables to operate safely in extreme outdoor conditions for more than 25 years.

Color Coding – Red & Black:
Solar PV cables are supplied in Red and Black colors to ensure:

  • Red: Positive (+) conductor
  • Black: Negative (–) conductor

This clear color identification improves safety, simplifies installation, and reduces wiring errors in DC systems.

Voltage Rating
Solar PV cables are typically rated for DC voltages up to 1000V, 1500V, or 2000V, depending on system design. This allows them to handle high-power solar arrays safely and efficiently.
